Actor Shivangi Verma Explores the Evolving Entertainment Landscape, Discusses Factors Influencing Footfalls in Theatres, and the Irreplaceable Charm of Cinematic ExperienceShivangi Verma Reflects on the Changing Dynamics of Cinema: Theatrical Magic vs. OTT Convenience

In the ever-evolving landscape of the entertainment industry, the emergence of Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms has introduced a transformative shift in how audiences consume content.

While the industry witnesses a string of hit blockbusters like “Pathan,” “Tu Jhoothi Mein Makaar,” “The Kerala Story,” “Zara Hatke Zara Bachke,” and “Satya Prem Ki Katha,” the unpredictability of footfalls in theatres remains a subject of discussion.

Acclaimed actor Shivangi Verma delves into the dynamics of this transition, shedding light on the unique appeal of both the cinematic experience and the convenience offered by OTT platforms.

Shivangi Verma emphasizes the increasing significance of OTT platforms in film financing and distribution. The accessibility and widespread reach of these platforms have become pivotal avenues for filmmakers to showcase their work and generate revenue. Nevertheless, she underscores that traditional theatrical releases retain a distinctive place in the industry, offering an ambiance and immersive experience that cannot be replicated in the virtual realm.

The complexities of fluctuating footfalls in theatres are multifaceted and stem from various factors, according to Shivangi.

“Several elements contribute to the unpredictability of footfalls in theatres,” she elaborates. “Firstly, the contemporary abundance of entertainment options, including OTT platforms, video games, and diverse leisure activities, has led to a fragmented audience. This diversification has inevitably resulted in a reduction in theatre attendance.

Secondly, the escalating ticket prices, particularly for premium formats, might deter certain individuals from patronizing movie theatres. Lastly, the convenience offered by streaming platforms allows viewers to enjoy movies at their own pace, which might be more appealing to specific demographics.”

Shivangi Verma herself has experienced the cinematic magic with screenings of films like “Pathaan,” “Tu Jhoothi Mein Makkaar,” “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,” “Zara Hatke Zara Bachke,” and “Adipurush.”

“As a devoted fan of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, I particularly enjoyed ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,'” she exclaims with a smile, reflecting her enthusiasm for the cinematic experience.

A prevailing sentiment asserts that the swift availability of movies on OTT platforms following their theatrical release has affected theatre attendance. Agreeing with this perspective, Shivangi Verma acknowledges, “The expedited availability of movies on OTT platforms shortly after their theatrical release could potentially impact theatre attendance.

Some individuals may opt to await the availability of a movie on a streaming platform rather than visiting the cinema. Nonetheless, it is crucial to recognize that the allure of the theatrical experience remains steadfast, especially for grand-scale productions, captivating visuals, and communal viewing with friends or family.”

The allure of cinema as a larger-than-life experience remains undeniable, and Shivangi Verma holds hope for its revival.

“In order to rekindle footfalls in theatres, a variety of strategies can be employed,” Shivangi suggests. “Theatres can focus on enhancing the overall cinematic experience through technological advancements, such as state-of-the-art sound systems, ergonomic seating, and expansive screens.

Additionally, introducing exclusive premieres, live events, or interactive engagements can entice audiences. Initiatives like reduced ticket prices or special promotions can incentivize more individuals to embrace the theatre experience. Collaboration between filmmakers and theatres to create unique content or limited releases can generate anticipation and drive more viewers to the big screen.”

While OTT platforms have accustomed us to the convenience of enjoying films within the comfort of our homes, Shivangi Verma points out that the allure of cinema transcends convenience.

“The convenience and flexibility offered by OTT platforms, including features like fast-forwarding and rewinding, might influence changes in viewing habits,” she observes. “However, these changes are not solely attributed to streaming options. Other factors, such as cost considerations, time constraints, and individual preferences, play pivotal roles in shaping audiences’ viewing choices.

It is imperative to acknowledge that while OTT platforms provide convenience, the cinematic aura found in theatres, characterized by larger-than-life screens and superior audiovisual quality, remains unparalleled.”

In this era of cinematic evolution, Shivangi Verma’s insights resonate as a reminder of the unique charm that both traditional theatre experiences and modern OTT platforms contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of entertainment.
