This Mother’s Day, acclaimed producer Mitu opened her heart to share the remarkable influence of her mother, Rekha Kumar — a woman she calls her first teacher, strongest role model, and an irreplaceable part of her life.
“My mother is my first teacher,” Mitu said. “Not just because she’s my mom, but because she is genuinely a teacher — one of the most wonderful ones I’ve learned from. She’s excellent at her job and her passion, professionalism, and work ethic have deeply shaped who I am.”
Rekha Kumar is more than a mother — she’s also a dedicated school principal and an educator with decades of experience. But to Mitu, she’s something even greater: “She is a principal and teacher, yes — but she’s also a rockstar grandmom.”
Mitu credits her mother for instilling key life lessons: “Always do your duty, no matter what,” and “Never give up — keep working till you succeed.” She says those values are at the core of her personal and professional journey.

Though not known for her cooking, Rekha Kumar nourished her daughter with something even richer: love, stories, and knowledge. “Even though we came from a middle-class background, I never felt the crunch. She made sure I always had what I needed — and when I didn’t, she’d say, ‘They have it because they’re common. You don’t have it because you’re special.’”
Now, Rekha has taken on a new role — helping raise Mitu’s daughter. “When I had my baby, both my parents left everything behind in Delhi to come be with us. They gave up their life to give my child the same care and values I received.”
Today, Rekha continues to teach — now as a grandmother — with the same iron will and loving heart. “She’s a rockstar grandmom,” Mitu says proudly, “and my daughter is lucky to have her.”
Mitu concluded with a heartfelt message: “Happy Mother’s Day to the two women who have shaped me — my incredible mother and my daughter, who teaches me something new every day.”
