A former Miss India finalist, Malati Chaahar is known for her acting prowess in films like Genius, Ishq Pashmina, and the music video Sada Viah Hoya Ji. Fresh off the success of her last directorial venture, the short film 7 Phere – A Dream Housewife, which garnered over one crore digital views, Malati steps into the director’s chair once again with this moving new story, produced under her banner, Tea Cofy Films.
Also the sister of popular cricketer Deepak Chaahar, currently playing for Mumbai Indians, Malati first attracted national attention during the 2018 IPL season when her enthusiastic support for the Chennai Super Kings from the stands earned her the ‘mystery girl’ tag among masses and the press alike.
Malati received an overwhelming support from friends across both industries. Familiar faces turned up in hordes to cheer her on, not just for the film, but for the clear conviction and sensitivity with which she’s telling stories that matter. Cricketers Deepak Chaahar, Naman Dheer, Karn Sharma, Raj Bawa, Krishnan Shrijith and Ashwani Kumar; actors Manoj Joshi, Vikram Kochhar and Arfi Lamba; producer Mahaveer Jain; philanthropist Dr Aneel Kashi Murarka; filmmakers Ravindra Gautam, Asshu Trikha and Akhilesh Jaiswal; anchor Shefali Bagga; and the ‘O Maaeri’ cast Apoorva Arora, Sonali Sachdev, Keshav Sadhna, Rushad Rana, and Astha Abhay graced the occasion. Malati’s father, Lokendra Singh Chaahar, and uncle, Deshraj Singh Chaahar, were also present at the do.

Malati’s ‘O Maaeri’, follows a mother and daughter story as they confront their deepest wounds to find healing and hope through their unbreakable bond. Without giving away too much, the narrative gently navigates themes of betrayal and trust, generational disconnects, and the quiet, powerful healing that stems from unconditional love.
Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and encouragement, Malati shared, “I’m extremely grateful to everyone who came here to support me. Speaking about the film, she continued, “O Maaeri is a moving film that explores the themes of resilience, familial bonds, and the enduring strength of women. This story is inspired by the struggles many face in the quest for love and stability, reflecting on how past traumas shape our present and future. With this film, I’ve tried to highlight the silent struggles that play out behind closed doors, and the powerful bond between a mother and daughter. As a unit, we have poured our hearts into every detail and performance to bring this film to life.”
Written and directed by Malati Chaahar, and featuring Apoorva Arora, Sonali Sachdev, Keshav Sadhna, Rushad Rana, and Astha Abhay in the lead cast, O Maaeri, produced under Tea Cofy Films, was brought to life with the expertise of DoP Dipita Sehgal, Art Director Akansha Gupta, Editor Amit Kumar, and Costume Designer Hitendra Kapopara.
