New Initiative: IFFM Baari
Adding a fresh dimension to the festival, IFFM introduced a new initiative called IFFM Baari, derived from the Bengali word meaning “House.” This inclusive platform aims to bring together founders and leaders from diverse creative industries, fostering engagement with emerging voices, particularly from South Asian communities. IFFM Baari will serve as a hub for supporting, empowering, and nurturing a variety of creative narratives. Shabana Azmi Receives Excellence Award
The event also saw the esteemed Indian actress Shabana Azmi being honored with the IFFM Excellence Award. Acknowledged for her powerful and versatile performances spanning a four-decade career, Azmi graciously accepted the award. This year, IFFM will premiere “My Melbourne,” a groundbreaking film series set in Melbourne with a local cast and crew. Mentored by globally acclaimed filmmakers Rima Das, Kabir Khan, Imtiaz, and Onir, the series comprises four stories celebrating diversity within the LGBTQAI+ community, disability, race, and gender. With the motto “a film with you, about you, and for you,” the series aims to authentically reflect the lived experiences and heartfelt stories of the community.
In collaboration with Vic Screen and Screen Australia, “My Melbourne” is a significant step towards representing diverse narratives authentically. As IFFM continues to evolve, it remains committed to fostering inclusivity and providing a platform for voices that deserve to be heard.
