Ranbir Kapoor may already have several exciting films in the pipeline, but he’s also thinking about what he wants to do next. As audiences watch him take on one of his biggest roles yet in Ramayana Part One, the actor has shared that he’s gradually moving towards another creative goal: becoming a filmmaker.
In a recent conversation with Sai Pallavi for BBC Asian News Network, Ranbir spoke about his interest in writing and directing. It’s more than just an idea, too. He revealed that he began writing a script a couple of months ago, though the experience has shown him just how challenging it can be to build a story from scratch.

He also talked about the satisfaction directors get from bringing a whole team together to tell a story on screen. For Ranbir, directing would offer a different kind of creative involvement one he’s eager to explore beyond acting.

Nov 7, 2026One of the most striking moments came when he reflected on the next stage of his acting career. Ranbir said he sees this as his last decade as an actor and has started thinking about how long he’ll continue to get opportunities to play the kinds of characters he takes on now. He added that he typically works around 100 to 125 days a year, leaving him time to explore writing alongside his acting commitments.
Ranbir doesn’t necessarily want to direct himself, though. He seems more interested in focusing on storytelling and working with other performers to bring his ideas to life. He hopes his first directorial project could go on floors within the next two or three years.
For now, he still has a busy acting schedule ahead. Ranbir will next appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. The film is scheduled to release on January 21, 2027.
