“Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” Fame Actress Talks About Her Return to Theatre and Embracing Author-Backed Roles
Neha SK Mehta, widely recognized for her role as Anjali Taarak Mehta in the popular TV show “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,” is making a remarkable comeback to the world of theatre after a hiatus of 12 years. This time, she takes on the role of Vaidehi in Sanjay Jha’s “Dil Abhi Bhara Nahi,” a Hindi play that offers her an author-backed role.
The actress shares her excitement about this opportunity, saying, “I feel blessed to be offered an author-backed role in the play, just like in my TV shows ‘Dollar Bahu,’ ‘Chando She Shamdo,’ ‘Pannlal Patel,’ and ‘Chand Ko Kaho Chhup Jaye.’ This has made my journey all the more worth it.”

Neha SK Mehta’s acting journey began with Gujarati theatre, and her return to the stage is a homecoming of sorts. She reflects on her decision to embrace theatre after a significant break, saying, “My father always tells me, ‘Manch kalakaar ko maanjhta hai, chamkata hai aur sikhata hai’ (The stage acknowledges, shines a light, and teaches the artist). Any form of theatre is a blessing for an artist. I come from a traditional family where values matter more than money, and we cannot sell our art beyond a limit.”
She goes on to explain her motivation for choosing theatre over other opportunities, stating, “I could have taken up another TV show, but I decided to return to Gujarat and reconnect with my roots. My parents asked me whether I wanted to continue doing what I was doing, and I knew I wanted to learn, evolve, and explore new aspects of life. I have come to realize that whenever I have run after money, good fortune has always stopped me by some means for my complete growth.”
Neha’s return to the theatre stage marks a significant moment in her career, where she seeks to not only showcase her talent but also grow as an artist.
Balancing Theatre and Future Endeavors
With her return to theatre, one might wonder if Neha SK Mehta has plans to return to the small screen as well. She shares her perspective on her career trajectory, saying, “After working on good projects, I wouldn’t like to ask for work or bow down to someone’s conditions. I wish to change that about me, as it is said that until you don’t ask, you don’t get. Before I get there, I will keep polishing myself.”
