Mumbai: Actress Sherleen Dutt, known for projects such as Honey Trap Squad, KINK, and Koi Jaaye Toh Le Aaye, is among the artists who have found their space in the streaming boom. In a recent interaction, she shared her take on the changing entertainment landscape, what success means for actors today, and the debate around bold content on OTT.
Sharing her take on OTT platforms becoming a major part of our lives since the pandemic, Sherleen said, "I think we’re living in one of the most exciting phases of entertainment. Earlier, we had limited options, but today the audience literally has an entire world of content at their fingertips. And the best part is that good stories are finally getting the attention they deserve, irrespective of big stars or massive budgets."
"As an actress, I personally feel OTT has opened so many doors, especially for artists who don’t necessarily come from a film background. I’ve worked in web series myself, and I love the fact that you can experiment with different characters and stories,” she added.

Oct 26, 2026However, she feels the audience has become very impatient. She said, “If you don’t grab their attention in the first few minutes, they’re already scrolling for something else! So yes, opportunities have increased, but the competition to hold people’s attention has become equally challenging.”
Asked whether OTT has changed how actors define career success, she shared, "I don’t think success should be defined by the size of the screen anymore. An actor who gives a brilliant performance in a web series deserves just as much appreciation as someone performing in a theatrical film. OTT has given actors an opportunity to prove that talent matters more than anything else."
At the same time, she believes the big screen still holds a value of its own. "Having said that, I don’t think the magic of cinema can ever be replaced. There’s something incredibly special about watching yourself on a big screen, hearing the audience react and experiencing that atmosphere," she said.

Oct 20, 2026"As an actress, of course, I would love to experience that magic too. But for me, what matters most is the character I’m playing and the impact it leaves. Because ultimately, people may forget where they watched you, but they’ll always remember how your performance made them feel," she added.
On bold scenes becoming a regular part of OTT content, she said, "I believe there’s a very thin line between being bold and being unnecessarily provocative. And I think as an industry, we need to understand that difference."
"I’m not against bold scenes at all. We are actors, and storytelling sometimes demands intimacy, vulnerability, or uncomfortable situations. But my question is, does that scene actually contribute to the story, or is it there simply to grab eyeballs?" she added.
She further said, "Because honestly, showing skin doesn’t automatically make content progressive, just like avoiding bold scenes doesn’t automatically make something meaningful."
"For me, real boldness is having the courage to tell an unconventional story, challenge stereotypes, and portray characters that society isn’t always comfortable accepting," she said.
"Boldness should come from the strength of the storytelling, not just the amount of skin being shown. And I think that distinction is very important," Sherleen ended.
