Lomharsh’s 25-minute short film Planet has clinched the prestigious Best Short Film Fiction Award at the 17th Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF). The film, which tackles the pressing issue of climate change, narrates the heartfelt journey of five children determined to save the Earth after witnessing the devastating impacts of global warming.
Planet stands out for its poignant message and its innovative storytelling through the eyes of young protagonists. The narrative is inspired by a teacher’s creative approach to educating her students about the dire consequences of environmental destruction. Frustrated by the inadequate efforts of adults, the children take bold steps to make a difference, embodying hope and action in the face of a global crisis.
The film’s resonant message has earned it accolades beyond JIFF, including recognition as a semi-finalist at the 12th CMS Vatavaran Film Festival. It underscores the transformative power of cinema in highlighting critical global challenges and inspiring collective action.
Directed by Indo-Australian filmmaker Lomharsh, Planet adds another feather to his cap of impactful films. Known for his thought-provoking narratives, Lomharsh has previously earned acclaim for works such as Yeh Hai India, Chicken Biryani Series, and Mintoo. With Planet, he once again showcases his talent for blending socially relevant themes with compelling storytelling.
