To honor the legendary musician Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, the second edition of the Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Award is scheduled for January 16th and 17th, 2024. The award ceremony, marking the maestro’s third death anniversary, will take place at Shanmukhananda Hall in Sion, Mumbai. This year, the award will be presented to the renowned musician Padma Vibhushan Ustad Zakir Hussain.
The award ceremony will be followed by a concert titled ‘Haazri’ by Padma Shri Sonu Nigam, a disciple of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. The tribute concert will pay homage to the late maestro and showcase Sonu Nigam’s musical prowess.
Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, a doyen of Hindustani Classical Music, left an enduring legacy, and the award in his name recognizes outstanding contributions to Indian Classical Music. Last year, the award was presented to flute maestro Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia.
Ustad Zakir Hussain, honored to receive the award, acknowledges Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan’s significant yet underappreciated role in Indian Classical Music. The award aims to keep the legacy alive, and Ustad Zakir Hussain hopes that the tradition of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana continues to thrive.

Sonu Nigam, expressing his joy in presenting the tribute concert, plans to showcase his strengths as an artist. The concert, titled ‘Haazri,’ will be a heartfelt homage from a disciple to his Guru, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
The event also includes classical performances by eminent artists such as Rakesh Chaurasia, Purbayan Chatterjee, and Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, adding cultural richness to the celebration. The award and concert signify the ongoing impact of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan on the world of music.
