Director Laxman Utekar’s upcoming historical film, Chhaava, is creating a buzz among moviegoers. In a recent chat, Utekar opened up about the extensive research and groundwork that went into crafting this cinematic gem.
The film draws inspiration from Shivaji Sawant’s book “Chhaava,” which narrates the tale of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
To ensure the film stays true to history, Utekar and his crew immersed themselves in the literature, reading the book multiple times to weave its narrative into the film. This thorough approach played a crucial role in shaping the story and ensuring historical accuracy.
Bringing History to LifeOne of the standout achievements in production was the recreation of the Darbar of Raigad.

Utekar mentioned that the team explored various sites, including Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, and Raigad Fort, to get a better grasp of the period and its architectural style.
The set designer even took measurements from the ground at Raigad to construct an exact replica of the Darbar at Film City.
The level of detail was astonishing, with every pillar, beam, carving, and window carefully crafted to reflect the original Raigad Darbar. This commitment to precision made the film’s sets not only visually impressive but also historically accurate.
The Iconic Throne of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Utekar also highlighted the iconic throne of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which weighed a staggering 1200 kg of gold. The film’s set designers recreated the Ashtamukhi Singhasan to showcase the opulence and splendor of the Maratha Empire.
Vicky Kaushal’s Rigorous PreparationLead actor Vicky Kaushal went through rigorous training to embody the character of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He took lessons in horse riding and sword fighting to ensure his portrayal was both authentic and believable.
