Indian fashion and wedding wear seem to go hand in hand. From heavy lehengas to elaborate bridal looks, there is always a demand for the same kind of outfits. But is it really fair to blame designers for it? Fashion designer Ricky Roy thinks customers are equally responsible. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Ki Baten, he shared his take on the wedding wear obsession and opened up about his experience of working with Bollywood actors.
"We are to be blamed for it. The only money Indians spend is on wedding clothes so of course the designers make what sells. That's the rule of the market. If we as customers change what we spend on the designers will create more stuff. It's a business so what we demand is what the designers will make. It's that simple," Ricky said.

He also spoke about actors arriving on film sets with large personal teams and their own demands. While this can become a talking point around a film's production, Ricky said he prefers to leave such matters to the producer.

Oct 21, 2026"Honestly it doesn't concern me at all. It's a producer's call. What I care about is if I am being allowed to do my job well and I am respected for my craft and my team and I are being compensated well for what we are doing on the project. As long as that's sorted I don't get into anything else. I prefer to stay in my lane," he said.
Getting credit for the work that goes into a film's costumes is another issue he spoke about. Actors often get the attention when a look becomes popular but the people behind those looks don't always receive the same recognition.
Ricky said he has learnt to deal with it without letting it affect his work.
"I have always managed to put my work out there as my own and always made sure I get credited for it. But yes it does happen at times. That's the nature of the business. People in front of the camera are more important publicly so their voice carries more weightage. No point swearing over that stuff. I do what I do and move on. Simple," he shared.
Ego clashes and tantrums are often discussed when it comes to life on Bollywood sets. Ricky, however, said he has never had to deal with a major incident involving an actor.
"I am very clear about what I do and I believe if you are good at what you do and you are clear the other person also respects you and your vision. I have never really had to deal with any major tantrum from any actor ever," he said.
He also has a view on why so many people look towards international celebrities when it comes to fashion. According to Ricky, people often hope that copying the style of a popular face will bring them the same kind of attention.
"We all like to look like international icons because their popularity is huge. So we believe by aping their style we can get popular as well. Sadly that doesn't always work," he said.
