Rani Mukerji’s Selective Film Choices: Waiting for Audience Reactions and Inspiration

Rani Mukerji, one of Bollywood's most celebrated actors, has been selective with her film choices over the past decade. The actor, who returned to the big screen after two years with her latest film "Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway," recently spoke about why she takes gaps between movies and how she seeks inspiration for her roles.

During the promotions of her latest film, Rani Mukerji shared that she likes to take time between projects to check the audience reaction and catch up on what other artistes are doing, both at home and around the world. She emphasized the importance of knowing the audience's reaction to her films and how it influences her decision to choose her next project.

Rani said, "The reason that I take this gap is that I wait for an audience reaction for my film that is releasing. The fact is that I stay at home and replenish myself. I kind of think. I kind of see cinemas from around the world, what is coming and what kind of work people are doing across the globe."

Rani Mukerji also emphasized the importance of seeking inspiration for her roles. She said that she watches work from actors in India's different regional cinemas and movies from outside the country as well, which gives her a lot of inspiration as an actor and as a person from cinema. She added that she wants to be associated with stories that she thinks people should know, and that is her criteria.

Rani said, "Because we as actors are always waiting to get inspired as well. So when I see work from actors in our country, from different regional cinemas, and when I see films that are made outside our country as well, it gives me a lot of inspiration as an actor and as a person from cinema, to be able to do something new or to give the global audience a story which needs to be told."

Selective Film Choices

Rani Mukerji's recent film choices reflect her selective approach to films. Her latest film, "Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway," is based on a real-life story of a woman whose children were taken away from the Norwegian government. It is directed by Ashima Chibber and also stars Anirban Bhattacharya, Jim Sarbh, and Neena Gupta.

In the past decade, Rani has only appeared in five films, two of which were sequels. She has reprised her popular role from the 2005 film "Bunty Aur Babli" in the recently released sequel "Bunty Aur Babli 2," and she was also seen in the action-thriller film "Mardaani 2."

The Romantics

Apart from her recent film choices, Rani Mukerji also appeared in the Netflix docu-series "The Romantics," which delved into the life of the late filmmaker Yash Chopra and his production banner, Yash Raj Films. Directed by Smriti Mundhra, the docu-series featured interviews with several Bollywood personalities, including Rani's husband, Aditya Chopra.

In the docu-series, Aditya Chopra spoke about his films and his father's legacy, and Rani shared her thoughts on the late filmmaker's work. Rani's appearance in "The Romantics" was a reminder of her association with Yash Raj Films, where she has worked in several successful films, including "Saathiya," "Hum Tum," "Veer-Zaara," and "Bunty Aur Babli."
