Actor Ambuj Dixit, who was seen in short film “Antara” and web series “Damaged (season 1)”, feels in today’s social media world relationships have become more about materialistic things. Though he feels that there are some people who look for genuine connections, it’s mostly about showing off.
“Relationships do lack emotional expression because everyone is looking for something unreal and has over-the-top expectations. Some people want someone who takes them out for expensive shopping and dinners in expensive cars and gifts them iPhones, whereas others want unrealistic beauty and sex,” he said.
“There are a few who are looking for a genuine connection, but relationships have become more transactional than ever. With so many things accessible through social media where we see people showing their happiness in the most materialistic way, it’s quite natural that our human expression has become limited to a more fragile and materialistic expression. So we have indeed invaded our privacy in a very hieroglyphic way,” he added.

Apr 4, 2026Sharing his views on being on social media, he believes that it’s a personal choice whether one wants to be active or not. He added, “In today’s world it looks more of an unbelievable state as these things have become so common now. I also don’t understand why people make their Instagram account private. I mean what’s the need to have a social media account if you want to keep it private? It’s better not to have one then.”
He admitted that he is not someone who will spend a lot of time on social media, and said, “I can’t be on my phone all the time. My day consists of a lot of activities such as meditation, reading, working on my acting skills, taking my dog for walks, watching movies, etc. Because I keep myself busy with these activities I don’t get time to use my phone all the time.”
“I can’t even sit in front of a laptop for a long time. I get restless and I like to move around. So I engage myself in a lot of activities,” he added.

Apr 2, 2026Ambuj also confessed that sometimes he missed the good old days when there was no social media, but stressed that in today’s world it’s important to strike a balance.
“There are days when I feel like those days were much better when we were not accessible all the time. I think it created a more organic way to approach people. But then mobiles have also made our life easier. So to balance it out it is very important to learn time management,” he said.
“I stop checking my phone an hour before I go to sleep, and it’s only on priority calls. In the morning also I don’t check it for at least an hour when it’s all my time to begin the day,” he concluded.
