Sadly for some, health or fitness means following a trend or lifestyle: Psychic and healer Sharmila Cirvante

Mumbai: World Health Day is observed on April 7 to draw attention to specific health concerns affecting the world, while also encouraging collective measures to improve health standards. Speaking on the occasion, psychic, spiritual healer, automatic writer, and spirit guide communicator Sharmila Cirvante finds having a ‘World Health Day’ quite ironical.

She said, "Health is something we own completely, and that means it’s a job we have to take seriously 24/7, 365 days a year. Sadly for some, health or fitness means following a trend or lifestyle, as the definition of fitness has changed across the years."

She mentioned that there was a time when fitness meant physical strength, how fast you could run, how much you could lift, or how you looked. "Today, fitness also includes mental well-being, emotional balance, sleep quality, gut health, body composition, stress recovery, and more. While we have more access to fitness information, it’s also creating more confusion."

She believes trends like intermittent fasting, various diets, biohacking, and extreme workouts will come and go. She believes true fitness is less about intensity and more about sustainability.

Sharmila highlighted that traditional Indian practices captured the importance of health perfectly. "Home-cooked meals, for instance, were not just about nutrition; they were about portion and balance. Daily routines were centred around consistency—waking up, eating fresh food, going to bed at fixed times, and incorporating movement into the day. This is what modern science now advocates. Yet, these are easily abandoned in the pursuit of something more modern, only to circle back later," she added.

Speaking about health concerns, she highlighted the impact of screens on modern lifestyles. She said, "We don’t realize how it impacts our posture, strains our eyes, and limits physical activity. Simple things like standing up every 30–40 minutes, stretching between tasks, keeping devices at eye level, or even taking short walks while on calls can make a meaningful difference."

Sharmila went on to highlight the importance of sleep, calling it, "the most underrated nutrient of health." She said, "Today’s lifestyles glorify hustle and late nights, so people treat sleep as optional. Quality sleep repairs the body, resets the brain, and recalibrates the system. Without it, no amount of exercise or clean eating can fully compensate. Yet, it’s often the first thing people sacrifice and the last thing they prioritize. That imbalance shows up gradually in energy levels, mood, focus, and long-term health."

But she acknowledged that health awareness had definitely increased. "People are reading labels, tracking steps, and talking about mental health more openly. But there is also a growing inclination to fads. People should understand that not every trending diet or workout is sustainable or suitable for everyone. Which is why discipline matters more than motivation", she said.

"Motivation comes and goes. Discipline, on the other hand, keeps you going on the days you don’t feel like it. Long-term health is not built on bursts of inspiration; it’s built on small, repeated actions like choosing a balanced meal, going for a walk, logging off screens on time, getting enough sleep. These decisions may seem insignificant in isolation, but over time, they define your well-being," she added.

One simple lifestyle change that can make a big difference? "Create a daily routine. Not a rigid, overwhelming schedule, but a few habits that are easy to stick to no matter what. In the end, health is built in the quiet discipline of everyday choices that no one may see, but your body will always remember," Sharmila ended.
