Adnan Sami, the celebrated singer, composer, and musician who revolutionized Indian pop music, recently joined Komal Nahta on the podcast to reflect on his creative journey and iconic collaborations. Recalling his dream project with legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan for the hit track Kabhi Nahi, Adnan shared a hilarious first reaction: "Mai toh bathroom singer hu, mai nai gaata". Elaborating on the memory, hr revealed that while working on his second album, Tera Chehra, he gathered the courage to play Kabhi Nahi for Bachchan. Though the megastar loved both tracks, he initially drew back at singing, saying, "Kya baat kar rahe ho; main toh nahi gaata... I'm just a bathroom singer; this is too difficult for me." After Sami reminded him of his legendary tracks in Mr. Natwarlal and Silsila, Bachchan took the track to practice. Once in the studio, the team pushed him from low-tone notes into higher registers, which he nailed effortlessly. Addressing Bachchan's worry that singing with headphones would destroy the energy ("Headphones mein jab gaane jaunga, saara josh khatam ho jaayega"), they recorded him live with no headphones and a cloth-wrapped mic. Describing the extraordinary session, Sami added, "He sounded like a million bucks. I wish we had BTS and everything in that era, because watching him record, I wish I had a camera. The expressions and joy he had on his face- Gen Z won't understand, but it was a 'Kodak Moment.'
