This is an auspicious day to buy something related to Mahalaxmi maa and something that can be used in the kitchen, so these are the age-old traditions we follow. We buy something that can be used in the kitchen and that's how we celebrate.
Subuhii Joshii: Dhanteras is believed to be the beginning of Diwali, since childhood we celebrate Dhanteras with great preparations. I follow all the rituals, I do the pooja very well, and try to buy something new for the small temple in my house like a new idol, an ornament, or something for that kitchen.

It is believed that this day is celebrated for wealth, prosperity, and success. We buy some gold or silver or a utensil that is used in the kitchen. So that's a ritual that I follow every year.

Mar 20, 2026Arun Mandola: I remember when I was child, I was always excited for Dhanteras. My mother always sent me to shop for some utensils. Every year, I purchase something on Dhanteras and have been doing that till today.
Mitu: I was born on Choti Diwali so for me Diwali is special. Dhanteras is the beginning of the most festive season and we do pooja on Dhanteras and start of the new year in a way. We buy something new to mark the occasion for.
Neelu Kohli: Yes, I very strictly support and practice Dhanteras, that is a day I buy one utensil and something in gold. We do the pooja. I don't know what the significance is behind it but that marks a bringing in of wealth in the house, it's a feel-good thing and I do it very happily.
Nivedita Basu: Dhanteras will always be about our parents insisting on buying gold. I have never been a fan of buying gold. I am married in a South Indian family and during my wedding they also bought gold for me. Now it's all about buying gold for kids every year.
