Is it a case of sour grapes? The just released romantic track 'Piya Re Piya Re' by Aatma Music on the Valentine's day has surely created a flutter in our neighboring countries. Yasser Desai's Piya Re Piya Re featuring Asim Riaz and Adah Sharma in a beautifully penned romantic track has crossed all limits of breaking records the world over. Of course it has surely created a flutter in the hearts of millions of Indians and it beckons all young and old who are romantic at heart.
Defending himself on the Pakistani Music composer's claim in a Pakistani website regarding similarity between 'Piya Re Piya' and Haider's 2017 soundtrack, Yasser Desai mentioned, "This 'popular drama' is definitely ignored as the musician in our neighboring country seems to be looking out for some cheap publicity stunts."
Pakistani singer, songwriter and music composer Shuja Haider has come out with a copyright claim with his tweet, "... Turns out his OST for Baghi – the popular biographical drama based on the late Qandeel Baloch – has been ‘copied’ by India’s Rashid Khan and Yasser Desai."
When we contacted Rashid Khan regarding the issue, he outright refuted Haider's claim that they have copied Haider's original song Baghi, "There isn't any similarity between the two songs. The Pakistani music composer is simply interested in his publicity as he is a nobody there. Neither our lyrics nor our composition are similar. I have worked hard to create my reputation and am contemplating legal action on him for making such a frivolous claim."
Haider, who also made his Coke Studio debut in 2016 as a music director and songwriter also shared the Indian track, the originality of which is now in question. Titled Piya Re Piya Re, the song has been released by Aatma Music. Sung by Desai, it is credited to have been composed by Rashid Khan and co-written by Rashid Khan and Anjan Sagri.
Ayyub Qureshi of Qureshi Productions Pvt Ltd mentioned, "Just because the phrase Pira Ve Pira rhyme similarly with our song Piya Re Piya Re, it doesn't have any grounds of copyright. Look at the lyrics that are so different and even the melody doesn't match to ours. We challenge than to stake a copyright claim if they are so confident. What is the reality is that our song Piya Re Piya Re managed to create a storm with millions across the globe liking it, it purely seems a case of sour grapes."
