Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh passed away yesterday due to an heartattack. Randeep left Mumbai as soon as he heard the news to carry out the last rites. Randeep had played the role of Sarabjit Singh in the biopic . The role of Dalbir was played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the film.
Dalbir was moved by Randeep’s portrayal of her brother in the movie. Dalbir and Randeep had a close relationship. This brother and sister’s bond was so sincere that Dalbir asked Randeep to give her “kandha” before she passed away ( offer his shoulder before taking the body to the cremation.)
The latter accepted it and made sure to be present at her funeral yesterday. He did as he promised where he not just gave , ‘kandha’ to her but also also lit the pyre. Indeed it’s a moment that will take a while to digest and accept that Dalbir Kaur is no more. We pay our condolences and prayers to her near and dear ones.
The actor took to his Instagram handle to penned a heartfelt note for her. He shared their picture and wrote, “घर ज़रूर आना” was the last thing she said. I went, only she had left. Not in the wildest dream could one imagine that Dalbir Kaur ji would leave us so soon. A fighter, child like, sharp and devoted to all that she touched. She fought a system, a country, it’s people and her own to try save her beloved brother Sarbjit. I was so fortunate to have her love and blessings and never to be missed Rakhi in this life time. Ironically the last time we met was when I was shooting in the fields of Punjab where we had created an Indo-Pak border. It was a chilly and foggy late November night but she didn’t care about all that. She was happy we were on the same side of the border. “खुश रहो, जुग जुग जीयो” she often ended most conversations with. I do feel truly blessed indeed. There just wasn’t enough time Dalbir ji.
