Fahadh Faasil and Imtiaz Ali's much-anticipated collaboration has hit a pause, at least for the time being. The filmmaker has confirmed that their project, titled The Idiot of Istanbul, hasn’t come to fruition, even though both were eager to team up.
Imtiaz shared this news while attending the Jagran Film Festival in Mumbai. He emphasized that while their film plans didn’t materialize, the door is still open for future collaborations with Fahadh. The two remain in contact and, according to Imtiaz, are both keen on working together down the line.

"I really want to work with Fahadh Faasil. We attempted to create one film together, but it didn’t pan out. We’re still in touch, and I believe we’re both excited about the possibility. At some point, I look forward to the pleasure of collaborating with Fahadh," Imtiaz mentioned during the event.

Ibrahim Ali Khan and Palak Tiwari Reportedly Part Ways After Three Years, But Why Was Their Relationship Never Confirmed?
Nov 1, 2026This project had generated buzz as it was expected to be Fahadh's Bollywood debut. It was envisioned as a quirky romantic comedy centered around two free-spirited individuals, embracing a slice-of-life narrative. However, specifics about the storyline and the reasons for the project's halt remain under wraps.
For now, this collaboration will have to wait. Fahadh continues to shine in the Malayalam film industry and beyond, while Imtiaz has his own exciting projects lined up.
The filmmaker's latest directorial effort is Main Vaapas Aaunga, featuring a stellar cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina. This romantic drama tells the story of a grandson caring for his grandfather, who is battling dementia. As the older man reminisces about a romance from the Partition era, the film beautifully explores the bond between the two generations.
Meanwhile, Fahadh was recently seen in the fantasy comedy Don't Trouble The Trouble, directed by Shashank Yeleti. He’s also gearing up for Karate Chandran, which has just begun production under his own banner, Bhavana Studios.
