EXCLUSIVE: Paranthu Po Is the Soulful Sleeper Hit You Didn't Know You Needed

Sometimes, it’s the quiet films that leave the biggest impression—and "Paranthu Po" is just that kind of movie. Released on July 4th and now available on JioHotstar, this Tamil dramedy has gradually captured the hearts of viewers who are seeking something a bit more authentic, a bit more human, and a whole lot more heartwarming.

The story revolves around Gokul and Glory, a couple striving to keep their heads above water amidst a sea of bills and responsibilities. Gokul is pursuing his entrepreneurial dreams, while Glory manages the family by running a saree shop. Their son Anbu, caught up in the whirlwind of their hectic lives, longs for something much simpler: quality time with his parents. When school lets out for the holidays, Anbu persuades his dad to take him on a road trip. What unfolds is a narrative that’s more about emotional journeys than physical ones.

Ram, the director and writer, doesn’t aim to shock you with unexpected plot twists or grand dramatic reveals. Instead, he offers a gentle reminder—a soft nudge to pause, reflect, and cherish the little things we often take for granted. The film is packed with moments that feel like they’ve been lifted straight from everyday life, making it relatable in a way that few films achieve these days.

Grace Antony shines as Glory, balancing strength and weariness in a way that feels incredibly real. And child actor Mithul Ryan as Anbu serves as the film’s emotional core—playful, honest, and heartbreakingly expressive.

It’s not a flawless film. There are moments when the pacing drags a bit too much, and a little tighter editing could have made the experience sharper. But these minor flaws don’t detract from the emotional impact. If anything, they add to its authenticity—
