“From Theatre to Television: Actors Share Their Journey and Love for the Stage on World Theatre Day”

On the occasion of World Theatre Day, &TV's actors are reminiscing about their journey from theatres to television. Atharva, who plays Bhimrao in Ek Mahanayak – Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, gives credit to theatre for honing his acting skills. Neha Joshi, aka Yashoda of Doosri Maa, talks about her childhood and how her parents' influence in theatre helped her become a theatre graduate. Kamna Pathak, who plays Rajesh in Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares the importance of theatre in building an actor's confidence. Aasif Sheikh, aka Vibhuti Narayan Mishra of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, highlights the role of theatre in igniting his passion for acting.

Atharva believes that theatre laid the foundation for his acting career, providing him with the skills and confidence he needed to pursue his passion for acting. Being on stage at a young age instilled him with communication skills, self-assurance, and the ability to perform in front of large audiences. These learnings helped him bag the role of Bhimrao in Ek Mahanayak – Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, an opportunity of a lifetime.

For Neha Joshi, theatre was a way of life. Being raised in a family of theatre artists, she was exposed to the art form at a young age. An incident from her childhood, where she was made to stand in for a child actor, turned her into a theatre lover. She is committed to being part of plays always, and even turns down TV commercials and films to prioritize her theatre commitments. She believes that theatre is the best medium to learn and explore acting skills and continues to take theatre workshops to this day.

Kamna Pathak emphasizes the value of theatre in building an actor's confidence. She shares that theatre is a difficult medium to master, with no retakes, and direct interaction with the audience. These elements provide immediate feedback, making it a great learning experience for any actor. She credits theatre for giving her the confidence she needs to be a successful actor.

Aasif Sheikh echoes the sentiments of his fellow actors, stating that theatre has always been his first love. He acknowledges the role of theatre in providing him with a strong foundation and igniting his passion for acting. Even though he is busy with his work in Bollywood and television, he always makes time for theatre. Recently, he returned to perform in one of his oldest plays after seven years, and it was a proud moment for him and his family.

The journey from theatre to television has been a common one for many actors, and these four are no exception. &TV has given them a platform to showcase their talent, and they are grateful for it. They are also thankful for the lessons and experiences they gained in theatre, which have helped them become successful actors.
