Mumbai: Bigg Boss 13 fame Arhaan Khan shares his thoughts on travel, responsible tourism and the importance of experiencing a destination beyond its popular landmarks. On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the actor believes that the true essence of a place lies in its people, culture and the little moments that travellers experience along the way.
Talking about what makes a destination worth visiting, Arhaan says, “For me, it’s never just the landmark. A place becomes memorable because of the feeling it gives you. I personally love travelling to colder places, somewhere with mountains, beautiful landscapes, that little chill in the air, and a quiet café where I can sit with a good coffee and just take in the surroundings. That experience stays with me much longer than simply ticking a famous monument off a list.”
He adds, “Of course, architecture, history and landmarks matter, but I think it’s the people, the culture and the little everyday moments that make you connect with a place. Sometimes the most beautiful memory from a trip can be something as simple as having coffee on a cold morning and watching life happen around you.”

Sep 26, 2026Arhaan also stresses the importance of responsible tourism and believes travellers should remember that they are entering someone else’s home when they visit a new destination. “Absolutely, but only when tourism is responsible. I think there’s a big difference between visiting a place and consuming a place. When you travel, you’re entering somebody else’s home, essentially. Local businesses, cafés, guides, artisans and small communities can genuinely benefit when travellers choose to spend locally and respect the culture,” he says.
Speaking about the responsibility of travellers, Arhaan says, “I think the first responsibility is respect. Respect the local culture, respect the environment and respect the fact that you are a guest. Don’t litter, don’t damage things just for a photograph, don’t treat local traditions like a spectacle.
The actor also acknowledges both sides of social media’s influence on travel. “Social media has made the world incredibly accessible. You can discover a beautiful little town, a hidden café or a destination you had never even heard of simply by scrolling. But I think the downside is that sometimes we start travelling for the photograph rather than for the experience,” he shares.
For Arhaan, travelling is ultimately about slowing down and creating memories beyond the camera. “For me, travel should also have moments that nobody sees. Maybe I’m sitting somewhere cold with a cup of coffee, there’s no perfect photograph, no story being uploaded, and I’m just enjoying where I am. Those are often the moments I remember the most,” he concludes.
