New York: Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah creator and producer Asit Kumarr Modi, along with popular artists Dilip Joshi (Jethalal), Mandar Chandwadkar (Bhide), Sonalika Joshi (Madhavi), Balwinder Singh Suri (Roshan Singh Sodhi), Munmun Dutta (Babita), and Nitish Bhaluni (Tapu), joined the Indian-American community in New York to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day and be part of the 44th India Day Parade – Harmony in Heritage 2026.
The TMKOC team participated in the flag-hoisting ceremony at Times Square, marking the special occasion with pride and patriotism. They later joined the India Day Parade – Harmony in Heritage 2026 on 16th August, where Asit Kumarr Modi was a Special Guest. The team received an overwhelming response from fans, with members of the Indian diaspora coming together in large numbers to cheer for their favourite stars. The celebrations saw fans and the TMKOC artists dancing, enjoying the festivities and sharing memorable moments as they came together to celebrate India’s spirit, culture and heritage.
During their visit, Asit Kumarr Modi also met Dilip Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Innovation in the New York City Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, adding another meaningful moment to the team’s New York visit.

He thanked the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) for inviting the TMKOC team and giving them the opportunity to be part of the celebrations. Over the years, the show has become a true representation of Indian culture, family values, traditions and togetherness, creating a strong connect with audiences across generations and geographies.
The enthusiastic response further reflected TMKOC’s strong global connect, with fans and the Indian diaspora coming together to celebrate India alongside the beloved TMKOC stars.
