Sheena Chohan Turns Women’s Day into Action—Engaging Youth in Dharavi Through Dialogue, Education, and Rights Awareness

Mumbai: Actor and Human Rights Advocate Sheena Chohan marked this year’s International Women’s Day by engaging directly with young people in Dharavi, focusing on awareness, confidence, and the importance of understanding fundamental human rights.

Spending the day with students and emerging youth artists, Sheena encouraged conversations around equality, self-confidence, and the power of knowing one’s rights. The initiative included meaningful interactions with students, along with the distribution of human-rights booklets and educational kits designed to help young people better understand dignity, equality, and justice.

Rather than treating Women’s Day as a symbolic observance, Sheena turned it into a day of action, participation and learning.

“Real progress begins when young people feel confident enough to speak up about equality,” Sheena shared. “Women’s Day reminds us that empowerment is not only about celebration—it’s about awareness, courage, and creating spaces where girls and boys grow up believing that respect and safety are fundamental values.”

As part of the outreach, Sheena collaborated with The Dharavi Dream Project, a creative learning platform that empowers youth through hip-hop, music, dance, and storytelling. The session brought together students and young performers to discuss equality, confidence, and how creative expression can amplify voices within communities.

Sheena also supported and conducted a seminar for Udayan Care, an organization committed to helping young people access education, mentorship, and opportunities to build independent futures.
