Season 1 was about testing the waters, Season 2 is about taking the gloves off: Mohammed Nagaman Lateef

Mumbai: After winning over audiences with candid, unscripted conversations in its debut season, Hoonur Talent Head Mohammed Nagaman Lateef returned with the second season of Honestly, Why Not? with MNL. Featuring guests including Vinny Arora and Dheeraj Dhoopar, Akanksha Chamola, Shiny Doshi and Lavesh Khairajani, Baseer Ali, and Surbhi Chandna and Karan Sharma, the podcast delves into deeper, more personal conversations that went beyond the headlines.

For Mohammed, the show's return was driven by one simple realization—audiences are craving authenticity. "Season 1 was an incredible experiment that showed us just how much audiences crave genuine, unfiltered conversations," he said.

He believes viewers have grown tired of overly polished celebrity interviews. "People are increasingly tired of rehearsed PR statements and predictable answers. Bringing the show back for Season 2 was therefore a no-brainer, especially because the appetite for raw and honest conversations within the industry has only grown stronger," he said.

This season, however, comes with a very different mindset. "While Season 1 was about testing the waters, Season 2 is about taking the gloves off," he said.

To achieve that, the format itself has evolved. "We made the format more engaging, brought together a diverse mix of personalities, and focused on exploring the unexpected realities of showbiz, from the changing structure of television and the dynamics of marriage to the constant pressure of staying relevant in the digital world," he said.

According to Mohammed, the biggest challenge isn't asking tough questions, it's making guests feel comfortable enough to answer them honestly. "It all comes down to breaking the traditional 'interviewer vs. celebrity' barrier," he said.

His role as Hoonur's Talent Head gives him an advantage. "Because of my day job leading Hoonur, many of these artists already know me or know that I respect their craft deeply," he said.

Rather than relying on a questionnaire, he prefers conversations to unfold naturally. "I don't start with a rigid script. Instead, I build an organic vibe where they feel like they are just chatting with a peer who understands their world," he said.

That approach, he believes, encourages honesty. "When a guest senses that you aren't trying to trap them for a cheap clickbait headline, but are genuinely interested in their perspective, they let their guard down," he said.

He cites Akanksha Chamola's episode as an example. "She was completely unapologetic about wanting lead roles because the space felt safe enough for that level of transparency," he said.

The first season also changed him as a host. "Season 1 taught me the art of active listening and the power of silence. Now, I let the conversation breathe," he said.

He's also become more comfortable embracing his own personality. "I've learned to embrace my own direct personality. Being spontaneous and blunt can sometimes be misconstrued as rudeness," he said.

"I've realized that guests actually appreciate someone who speaks their language and calls things out as they are. In Season 2, my approach is to react to the moment rather than stick to a formula. If an answer feels incomplete, I'll dig into it naturally rather than moving on to a completely different topic," Nagaman ended.
