Mumbai: Janmashtami holds a very special place in Kanika Maheshwari’s heart, as the festival brings with it a sense of devotion, positivity and an emotional connection with Kanha ji. For the actress, celebrating Krishna’s birth is not merely about rituals and festivities but about pausing for a moment and reconnecting with faith. She says, “There is something extremely peaceful about Janmashtami for me. The moment you hear the bhajans, see the little Kanha ji idols and feel the festive energy around you, there is an immediate sense of happiness and positivity.”
Talking about her personal bond with Kanha ji, Kanika shares that Krishna has always represented a beautiful combination of innocence, wisdom and strength for her. “I feel very close to Kanha ji because he teaches us to live life with love but also with courage. He can be playful and mischievous, yet at the same time, there is so much wisdom in everything he represents. Whenever life becomes confusing, I feel that remembering Kanha ji somehow gives me the strength to trust the journey,” she says.
For Kanika, the beauty of Janmashtami also lies in the innocence associated with Bal Gopal. She explains, “I particularly love seeing Bal Kanha because there is so much innocence in that little form. The decorations, the jhula, the makhan-mishri and the beautiful Krishna bhajans all create such a pure atmosphere. It takes you back to a very simple space where you are just grateful and happy. I think that innocence is something we should all try to keep alive within ourselves.”
