From Cricketer to Wrestler to Para-Athlete ...Peddi Proves Why Ram Charan Remains One of Indian Cinema’s Most Complete Mass Heroes

Mumbai: For years, Ram Charan's stardom has been all about his screen presence and ability to deliver a blockbuster. From Magadheera and Rangasthalam to RRR, he has repeatedly transformed himself for roles, but Peddi may be the first film where audiences are witnessing multiple versions of the actor within a single story.

One of the biggest talking points following the release of Peddi has been the sheer variety of physical transformations Ram Charan brings to the screen. Instead of relying on one heroic look throughout the film, the actor constantly evolves, with each appearance reflecting a different stage of Peddi's journey.

The cricket portions have especially become a fan favourite. Sporting long hair, a rugged beard and a striking nose ring, Ram Charan looks unlike any character he has played before. The look has won love on social media because it combines athleticism and rural swagger. The long-haired cricketer version of Peddi has already become one of the film's defining images.

Then comes the wrestler. For the kushti sequences, Ram Charan undergoes another transformation altogether. Gone are the flowing locks and accessories. Instead, audiences see a bare-bodied fighter with tied hair, a heavier physique and the muscular build of a traditional pehelwan. The actor reportedly trained extensively to achieve the physicality required for the wrestling stretches, and the results are visible on screen.

The wrestling portions have resonated particularly strongly with mass audiences because they bring back an old-school form of heroism that reminds one of Salman Khan's Sultan, Aamir Khan's Dangal among other sports movies. There is no stylised action. It is simply one man testing his strength against another in front of a roaring crowd.

The third major look arrives during the para-sports portions of the film. Here Ram Charan is back again with a different look and energy. The transformation is impeccable. His expressions and postures change to show a character going through a whole gamut of challenges.

What’s impressive about these transitions is that they never feel disconnected. Rather, they contribute to the larger journey of Peddi, showing audiences multiple dimensions of the same man.

This level of commitment to transformation has led many netizens to compare Ram Charan’s technique with some Hollywood actors known for their physically demanding roles. The comparisons range from actors like Tom Hardy, who often changes his body for films, to Christian Bale, whose career has been defined by extreme physical transformations. Others have pointed to Hugh Jackman and his commitment to the Wolverine character across multiple films.

Mass stars often rely on a single established image because audiences already love them. Reinventing that image repeatedly involves risk. Peddi shows Ram Charan embracing that risk.
More importantly, the film reminds viewers why he remains one of the strongest mass actors of his generation. The action scenes demand wrestling skills, athletic agility, cricket training, stamina and physical endurance. The emotional scenes require vulnerability and eyes that speak. The crowd sequences place him at the centre of large-scale spectacle. Yet throughout the film, he remains believable in every version of Peddi.

That ability to be a cricketer, a wrestler, a para-athlete and a people's hero within the same film is what separates a star from a mass phenomenon. With Peddi, Ram Charan is not simply playing a hero. He is showcasing the full range of what a modern mass hero can be
