During a period filled with uncertainty and long, anxious hours, the two musicians wanted to offer their friend love, reassurance and solace. When words seemed inadequate, they turned to music.

That personal gesture became Hey Ram.

Created for one person, the song is now travelling to a much wider audience, carrying with it a prayer for comfort, healing, faith and hope.

“We cannot take away anybody’s pain. But as musicians, we can only put our hearts into a song and hope it reaches those who need it,” says Suchitra Krishnamoorthi.

Before it belonged to the world, Hey Ram belonged to a friendship. Its purpose was intimate and deeply human — to soothe a friend’s heart and remind them that they did not have to face fear and uncertainty alone.

But as the composition began reaching more people, something unexpected happened. Requests to hear the song again and again started coming in.

Listeners found echoes of their own lives, emotions and relationships in its tenderness. What had begun as a private offering of comfort was connecting with people far beyond the circumstances in which it had been created.

That response made Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Raju Singh realise that a song created to bring solace to one person could perhaps bring comfort to many.

“We made it for a friend, with no thought of how far it might go. The response made us realise that a song made for one heart can find a home in millions,” says Raju Singh.

At the emotional centre of Hey Ram are Kumaar’s lyrics, which give voice to the longing for reassurance, the strength found in prayer and the hope that someone we love will remain with us through life’s most difficult moments.

“The heart knows no boundaries of faith. When someone we love is suffering, our prayers come from the same place,” says Kumaar.

That sense of shared humanity shapes Hey Ram and its aspiration to become an anthem of heartfulness.

While the title invokes prayer, the song’s emotional language moves beyond religious boundaries. Its larger message is about compassion, connection and the instinct to reach out when someone we care about is hurting.

In that sense, Hey Ram is as much about friendship as it is about healing.

Its release on September 27, ahead of World Heart Day, gives the song another layer of meaning — not by changing the deeply personal story from which it emerged, but by allowing its message of heartfulness, hope and human connection to travel further.

At its core remains the simple act that started everything: two people reaching out to someone they loved through music.

Now, that same offering is preparing to reach many more hearts, carrying the hope that someone, somewhere, may hear Hey Ram and feel held, understood and a little less alone.
