Param Sundari Fails to Charm at the Box Office, Struggles to Reach ₹50 Crore

Param Sundari Fails to Charm at the Box Office, Struggles to Reach ₹50 Crore

Maddock Films’ latest romantic comedy, Param Sundari, featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, hit theaters with a lot of excitement but has struggled to make a mark at the box office. It kicked off with a solid start, raking in ₹6.85 crore on its opening day, and even saw a bit of growth over the weekend, pulling in ₹9 crore on Saturday and ₹9.65 crore on Sunday. However, that initial buzz quickly faded as the weekdays approached, leaving the Week 1 total at ₹37 crore net.

The second week was pivotal for the film, but instead of picking up steam, it took a sharp dive. It managed to earn just ₹1.75 crore on its second Friday, followed by ₹2 crore on Saturday and ₹2.15 crore on Sunday, adding a mere ₹5.90 crore to its overall total. After two weeks, the film has grossed around ₹46 crore net, and even though it’s still playing in theaters, it seems unlikely to hit the ₹50 crore mark in any significant way.

What makes this performance particularly disappointing is that Param Sundari had all the right elements for a commercial hit—a star-studded cast, catchy songs, and the support of a well-known production house. The chemistry between Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor sparked interest, and rom-coms typically do well with family audiences. Yet, somewhere between its polished presentation and predictable storyline, the film just didn’t resonate with viewers. The buzz was mixed, with some fans enjoying the fresh dynamic between the leads, while others felt the plot was too clichéd.

The competition at the box office also contributed to its decline. With several mid-budget films and a few Hollywood releases vying for attention, Param Sundari struggled to keep its screen presence, especially in metropolitan areas where it initially thrived. While single-screen theaters provided some support, the drop in weekday earnings indicated that the film lacked staying power.

For Sidharth Malhotra, this film was supposed to be another feather in his cap after some recent hits, but it just didn’t hit the mark. Janhvi Kapoor, who looked stunning and gave a lively performance, couldn’t turn the tide for the film either. While the chemistry between the two actors was praised, the lackluster script and uneven pacing really brought down the overall experience.

The film’s music, particularly the title track, did manage to trend well online, which helped with promotions and drew in some initial viewers, but catchy songs alone couldn’t boost ticket sales significantly. In today’s box office landscape, where content-driven films are setting the standard, flashy visuals without a solid narrative often struggle to hold their ground past the opening weekend.

With Param Sundari unlikely to make much more at the box office in the days ahead, it finds itself among those films that started with a lot of promise but failed to convert that excitement into lasting success. For Maddock Films, known for delivering hits in the past, this serves as a reminder that audiences are looking for more than just glitz—they crave fresh storytelling along with their entertainment.

After two weeks, the film has raked in around ₹46 crore, and it seems to be heading toward a quiet end to its theatrical run without leaving a significant impact. Unless something miraculous happens in the third week, Param Sundari will likely be remembered as a missed chance rather than a blockbuster.
