Mirai Roars at the Box Office: Teja Sajja Delivers a 67 Crore Weekend Worldwide

Telugu cinema has just welcomed its newest box office sensation, Mirai. This fantasy action drama, led by Teja Sajja, burst onto the scene this weekend, raking in an impressive ₹67.5 crore globally. With ₹49 crore from the Indian market and an additional ₹18.5 crore from overseas, the film not only kicked off with a bang but also breathed new life into the struggling Telugu box office.

Mirai started strong on Friday and kept the momentum going throughout the weekend, boasting nearly full houses in key regions. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, it pulled in ₹33.5 crore, with the Nizam area alone contributing ₹15.5 crore. Karnataka added ₹5 crore to the mix, while Tamil Nadu and the rest of India chipped in with ₹1.25 crore each. Interestingly, the Hindi dubbed version—despite lacking big-name stars—saw a steady rise, with Sunday’s earnings more than doubling what it made on opening day.

The film's performance overseas has also been impressive. North America alone brought in over USD 1.65 million, while the rest of the world added another USD 450,000, pushing the international total to USD 2.1 million. For a film featuring a young star like Teja Sajja, these numbers highlight both strong word-of-mouth and a growing interest in Telugu fantasy action films abroad.

What makes Mirai’s success even more remarkable is the current state of the Telugu film industry. With fewer releases and a string of disappointments earlier this year, the trade has been eagerly awaiting a solid hit. Mirai has stepped up as a rare success, following the unexpected triumph of Little Hearts last week, and now the industry is feeling a renewed sense of hope as September unfolds.

The film's consistent audience turnout was also aided by the lack of steep ticket price hikes—a factor that has recently impacted even the biggest Telugu releases. By keeping ticket prices reasonable, Mirai ensured packed theaters instead of empty premium seats, proving once again that affordability is key to box office success.
