Mumbai: Amid the ongoing election buzz, the makers of Governor—the Manoj Bajpayee-starrer political thriller—have unveiled the film’s first poster, offering a glimpse into its intense world of power and leadership.
Adding to the film’s narrative depth, music composer Mannan Shaah has come on board to create the background score. Known for his evolving sound, Shaah’s association brings a fresh musical layer to the project.
The first-look poster, unveiled on Bajpayee’s birthday, has already sparked conversation with its striking line, “If I fail, India fails,” hinting at the pressure and isolation that come with positions of power. Directed by Chinmay D. Mandlekar and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Governor is shaping up to be a gripping political thriller.

Apr 26, 2026For Mannan, the project marks another step forward after The Kerala Story 2, as he continues to explore the space of background scoring. He shared that the collaboration came about when producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah reached out to him after hearing his work. A meeting with the director followed, and once he watched the film, he realised the kind of sonic treatment it required.
“I came on board after the film was already shot and edited. The score plays a crucial role in Governor, especially given its time setting. It needed to feel authentic and emotionally aligned with the story,” he said.
Set in the late ’80s and early ’90s, the film demanded a sound that reflects its period while still connecting with today’s audience. For Shaah, that meant striking a balance between realism and scale.
Interestingly, the composer also went a step further for the film, recording an international orchestra for the first time. Collaborating with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, he worked with a 50-piece string ensemble to bring added depth to the score, while also incorporating live elements inspired by ’80s rock.

Apr 23, 2026“Recording with an international orchestra was a first for me. A large part of the score has been done live to give it a certain texture and scale that the film deserved,” he added.
With its mix of political intrigue, strong performances, and a layered musical backdrop, Governor promises to be an engaging cinematic experience. The film is slated to release on June 12, 2026
