#SheenaChohan Uses Best Actress in a Comedy Role Award to Call for Safety by Educating People to Give Women Respect. #Bollywoodkibaten

On Sunday Sheena Chohan was given the Best Actress in a Comedy Role Award at the ILLA Awards at Taj Lands End in Mumbai, for her character Shreya, a young, modern Mumbai woman, which Sheena did in-depth character research to create for the web-series Ex Mates. She won hearts with her award speech and vibrant look.

Sheena, who was awarded the Human Rights Hero Award at the United Nations for spreading awareness of basic rights and equality to 175 million people, used the award to make an urgent call to the nation regarding women’s safety.

As United for Human Rights South Asia Ambassador, Sheena was the first Indian the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights reached out to for help promoting the UN’s 75th anniversary of human rights. Sheena’s work with artists like Preety Zinta, Sonakshi Sinha, Raveena Tandon, Sonu Sood, Imtiaz Ali, Guneet Monga and others included a Born Free & Equal podcast on subjects like Don’t Discriminate, No Torture, The Right to a Fair and Free World, Freedom of Thought, and many more.

Sheena, who previously used her speech at the United Nations in New York to call for Mandatory human rights education in all schools and universities in India, used her platform at the ILLA Awards to say:

“Of course there must be justice, but no amount of punishment will bring the victim’s life back. Our focus must be on making women safe by preventing future crimes and the way to achieve that is to educate boys, before they become men, to give women respect.

Our constitution, which had fifteen women on the drafting committee, carves into an immovable cornerstone, that the law of our nation is equality. We must immediately implement mandatory human rights education in all schools and universities, so the youth understand the rights our founding fathers, and mothers, fought so hard to give us – rights that educate boys to give women respect.”

Sheena Chohan is preparing for the release of her Hindi film debut Sant Tukaram, a feature film where she plays the female lead opposite Subodh Bhave, who just acted in Paani, a film produced by Priyanka Chopra. Sant Tukaram is directed by Aditya Om and produced by Purushottam Studios.

At the red carpet awards event for the Best Actress in a Comedy Award, Sheena Chohan dazzled in a fun, vibrant dramatic ensemble, styled by the brilliant Mrunal Mistry. The look was a perfect blend of grace, class, and a lively flair, capturing the essence of the comedy-drama genre.
