Mumbai Police Investigate YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia Following Inappropriate Comments Complaint

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the Mumbai Police visited the home of YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia in response to a formal complaint regarding his controversial remarks made during the YouTube show "India's Got Latent." The complaint accused Allahbadia and others of using language that was considered offensive and not in line with societal standards of decency.

Earlier, on February 10, 2025, a similar complaint was filed against Allahbadia by the Assam Police. Notably, Ashish Chanchlani's lawyer, Apurva, was seen at the Khar Police Station, where the complaint was lodged. The studio hosting "India's Got Latent" is located within the Khar Police Station's jurisdiction.

On February 10, 2025, Allahbadia publicly apologized for his controversial statement, which had ignited significant backlash and calls for his podcast to be banned. Politicians, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and various opposition leaders, criticized Allahbadia for misusing his freedom of speech.

With a substantial social media presence—600,000 followers on X, 4.5 million on Instagram, and 10.5 million YouTube subscribers—Allahbadia quickly became a trending topic after his comments on Samay Raina's YouTube reality show gained attention.

The uproar over Allahbadia's remarks prompted a BJP member to file a police complaint against the show's creators, judges, and participants. In his apology video on X, Allahbadia acknowledged that his comment was not only inappropriate but also lacked humor.

"Comedy isn't my strong suit. I'm just here to apologize," Allahbadia stated. "Many of you have questioned whether this is how I want to use my platform. Clearly, this is not my intention. I won't provide any context or justification for what occurred. I'm simply here to say I'm sorry. I had a lapse in judgment."

Allahbadia promised to use his platform better and asked the makers of the video to remove the insensitive sections. The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) condemned Allahbadia's remarks, labeling them "abhorrent" and "disrespectful" to family and societal values. The association demanded an immediate ban on the show and urged industry professionals to cut ties with those involved, including Allahbadia.

The AICWA stated, "The All Indian Cine Workers Association vehemently condemns the reprehensible and offensive remarks made on the YouTube show India's Got Latent. Such disgraceful content is utterly unacceptable and poses a significant threat to the moral fabric of our society."
