Ajay Devgn’s latest film, Son of Sardaar 2, just hasn’t been able to capture the charm of the original. Released on August 1, 2025, this comedy-drama, which also stars Mrunal Thakur, opened to a rather tepid reception and hasn’t gained much traction at the box office.
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and produced by Devgn Films and Jio Studios, the film is on track for a modest lifetime gross of around Rs 67 crore globally. This includes about Rs 55.75 crore from the Indian market (with a net of Rs 46.25 crore) and roughly USD 1.25 million from overseas, which translates to around Rs 11.25 crore.
To put things in perspective, the original Son of Sardaar (2012) was a massive success, pulling in Rs 135 crore worldwide. Sadly, the sequel is projected to finish with only about half of that amount. Its struggles can partly be blamed on stiff competition from other films like Dhadak 2, which released around the same time.
