Actor-turned-activist Somy Ali has sustained a serious injury, suffering a two-bone broken fracture that requires six weeks of strict bed rest followed by intensive physical therapy. Despite the painful setback, the founder of No More Tears (NMT) says her work for abuse victims will not slow down.
Somy, known for her relentless commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, shared that she will continue coordinating with law enforcement and victims via Zoom throughout her recovery.
“Abuse doesn’t care if you have a fractured ankle, and neither does law enforcement,” she said, emphasizing that her injury cannot come in the way of urgent rescue efforts.

Apr 18, 2026Somy’s ability to communicate in multiple languages—including Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Sindhi, and Arabic, owing to her Iraqi maternal lineage—has enabled NMT to assist victims across India, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. “NMT provides very unique services because of our linguistic and cultural access,” she added.
The activist revealed that her dedication remains unwavering—even immediately after surgery.
“When I came out of the operating room, the first thing I did upon gaining consciousness was call back a victim we are helping in another state,” she recalled.
She highlighted the added complexities in cases where the abuser holds institutional power. Referring to a current case, Somy said, “The husband is in the military, so he’s got that bro-code support like some police officers do if they are domestic-violence abusers. That makes it tough because there’s blatant abuse of power.”

“Fractures or excruciating pain—my priority is NMT. If I can help from home even on bed rest, I will not back down,” she affirmed.
Marking the organization’s 19th year, Somy expressed her enthusiasm about NMT’s growth. “I am beyond elated with our new set of board members and private donors,” she said, calling it a promising new chapter for the non-profit.
