Diwali or Deepawali essentially means the Awareness of the Inner Light. In a way, it is the celebration of the awakening and awareness of the Inner Light which has the power to outshine the darkness.On this day, people decorate their home with diyas, rangolis and decorative lights, wear new clothes, exchange sweets and gifts with each other, burn crackers and in the evening perform, Lakshmi Pujan.
Bollywood Actress LopaMudra Raut, an ardent believer in the environmental rights and betterment, chose to affect it as little as possible in her traditions and rituals surrounding the festival. She shared some tips with the fans guiding them to make changes that could help benefit nature in more ways than one. " Weather it’s Diwali or Christmas our acts must only contribute for the betterment of the environment and not the other way around. We must be mindful of the elderly new borns and the animals too. Let’s have a safe and a eco friendly diwali. Let’s thinks of generations to come and the damage that we can prevented. Baby steps towards environmental conservation would only help.”
She goes on to say how she prefers having diet mithai, sweetened by dates and jaggery for Diwali.
