Actor, producer, and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Dia Mirza recently met the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, during his visit to India. As a champion of climate change and a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Advocate, Dia has expressed her gratitude in meeting the Secretary-General and looks forward to working with him in realising India’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda.
“It is always energising meeting with SG António Guterres. I am grateful for his honesty and guidance and remain committed to the sustainable development goals. I hope his visit to India leads to strengthened action towards the 2030 Agenda,” Dia said on her social media. She met the Secretary-General at IIT Bombay, where he was addressing the UN Day Public Lecture on the partnership between India and the UN and strengthening South-South Cooperation.

She has always been vocal about her stands on environmental issues like clean air, clean seas, afforestation, climate change, plastic pollution, and wildlife protection.
“I am happy that a celebrity like Dia is committed to advancing children's rights and environmental conservation - two crucial areas for attaining sustainable development or global goals. I’m truly grateful for her voice, expertise, and leadership," the SG added.

During his visit, he also stressed the importance of inclusivity in India for the country to gain global authority and credibility. “Respect for human rights should start at home,” he added. He also urged the students not to work for those who destroy the climate and to combat and find solutions to the loss of biodiversity and pollution.
