Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has evolved from a local sensation to a global box office powerhouse. Its remarkable theatrical journey has made it the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever in the United States, Canada, and Australia, solidifying its presence in three of the most significant overseas markets for Hindi cinema.
What makes this feat even more impressive is the backdrop against which it has achieved this success. Unlike many pan-Indian blockbusters that capitalized on premium ticket prices abroad, Dhurandhar was released at standard Bollywood rates. Yet, it has outshone major competitors in terms of audience turnout, showcasing an extraordinary level of acceptance and repeat viewership. In the US, while some Indian films may still lead in gross earnings due to inflated ticket prices, Dhurandhar has easily outpaced them in terms of admissions—an authentic measure of its popularity.
From the very beginning, Canada and Australia emerged as the film’s strongest international markets. Both regions, home to a vibrant Punjabi community, embraced the film with open arms, bolstered by its hit Punjabi soundtrack and broad appeal. Previously, films like Animal had dominated these markets, but Dhurandhar has now surged ahead to claim the title of the highest-grossing Bollywood film, as well as the biggest Indian film in both countries.
The United States, which took a bit longer to catch on, has seen a remarkable shift. Once the excitement started to build, the film began racking up impressive daily numbers and has continued to astonish trade analysts well into its theatrical run. With nearly a million dollars collected in its fifth weekend alone, Dhurandhar has broken long-standing overseas records and is confidently on track to reach a lifetime gross of around USD 13 million in the US.
