My mother is my first and best teacher. She taught me one very big lesson that is my mantra for life— ‘You must always do your duty’. No one should ever say that you didn’t do what you were supposed to do. I believe in it and still follow this.

Mitaali Nag
My Class teacher told me to give my 100 percent to whatever I do. Whether it is work or relationships, I always give my 100 percent. And, I know how much it has helped me grow.

During my school days, my English teacher, who was an ex-army man, used to give beautiful advice to the students. One fine day he gave us a very simple piece of advice that was —‘Cope with failure and learn from mistakes’. I still remember it. It’s a very simple line but if you understand the meaning of it, life definitely gets easier, at least mine has. Being an actor, every now and then, you have to cope with the failures. Sometimes you succeed, and sometimes you don’t. So if you just cope with the failures and learn from your mistakes, there’s something that can stop you. I think this advice will stay with me forever. It has definitely helped me a lot in my career.

My teacher always taught me to give my 100 % with all my heart and the whole universe shall work towards fulfilling your wish.

September 5 is an important day in our lives. Whatever we are today is because of our teachers. I remember my Hindi teacher from 8th grade, her name was Sumati. She always told me to focus on extracurricular activities equally as much as I was focusing on my studies. A lot of kids are studious, they do well in life. But you can also excel in extracurricular activities along with your studies. Don’t leave a single competition be it essay writing, debate, drawing or sports, you should participate in at least one of them. I am working in a field in which I never did any crash course or degree. So I learned this in my childhood to keep learning new things and participated in each and everything to gather knowledge.

Whoever you learn something from, becomes your teacher. The one thing that I have learnt in life from people I have met during different phases of my journey is that you can master only one thing in life and if you focus all your energies there it will grow. You might not get results in the time frame that you have set but eventually, you will get it. As long as you are consistent in your life, patient and strive towards bettering yourself without expecting any result, you will make something out of it. And even if you don’t get it, you will at least enjoy the journey and focus on the process. I absolutely believe that. I totally don’t care what the results will be as long as I am enjoying the process. It’s not something that teachers believe in. I realised it when I read the Bhagavad Gita, ‘Karm kar phal ki chinta mat kar’. I didn’t understand it back then, but now I understand that just enjoy what you are doing and the rest will follow. Also, never compare yourself to anybody because everybody has their own journey and their karmas attached to them, enjoy your journey and you will be happy.

TAGGED: Happy Teachers’ Day
