Sarvapitri Amavasya extends over two days, commencing on October 13th and concluding on October 14th at 11:25 pm. If October 14th falls on a Saturday, it is considered Amavasya. This auspicious period also witnesses the formation of Indra Yoga, a favorable planetary alignment. Parduman Suri advises that even if one has previously performed Shraddha (rituals for ancestors), it is advisable to conduct it once more during Sarvapitri Amavasya to invoke blessings for both known and unknown ancestors.
Importance of Sarvapitri Amavasya:
On Sarvapitri Amavasya, Shraddha is performed for ancestors who departed on Amavasya or those whose exact date of passing is unknown, including ancestors predating one’s grandfather. Individuals who were unable to perform Shraddha during Pitru Paksha (a 16-day period dedicated to honoring ancestors) can fulfill this sacred obligation on Amavasya.
Rituals and Practices:
Worship of the Peepal tree is of utmost importance during Sarvapitri Paksha, as it is believed that the souls of ancestors reside within these trees. Offering water to the Sun and Peepal trees is considered a sacred practice. During Sarvapitri Amavasya, this tradition extends over two days, allowing devotees to worship the Peepal tree anytime between 9:51 am on October 13th and throughout the day on October 14th. Sarvapitri Amavasya is also referred to as Mokshadayini Amavasya, a day to express gratitude to ancestors through offerings.

Ways to Honor Ancestors:
- Offer water to the Sun while meditating on your ancestors, seeking their eternal peace.
- Pay homage to the Peepal tree, believed to quench the thirst of ancestral souls.
- Offer water mixed with black sesame seeds to ancestors, invoking blessings for all family members. An ideal offering includes water combined with milk, sesame seeds, kusha grass, flowers, and scented items.
- Perform Panchabali, a sacred ritual involving offerings of food to cows, dogs, crows, deities, and ants, while praying for blessings from ancestors with devotion.
- Share a meal with your sister, son-in-law, and nephew-niece, as it brings happiness to ancestral spirits. After the meal, express gratitude to all known and unknown ancestors, seeking forgiveness for any knowingly or unknowingly committed mistakes by you or your family members.
