The India Bullion & Jewellers Association’s (IBJA) lady’s wing launched their first-ever “Golden Girls Awards” to recognize and reward women entrepreneurs in the Gem & Jewellery Industry across India. The awards were presented on International Women’s Day 2023 to acknowledge the hard work and success achieved by female entrepreneurs in the sector. The Golden Girls Awards were conceptualized by IBJA in association with “Heera Zhaveraat Group” with the aim of motivating and encouraging women to create their mark in the Gem & Jewellery sector in India.

The Golden Girls Awards received a tremendous response from every corner of the country in its first edition. Going forward, the awards will be an annual event. The winners of the Golden Girls Awards 2023 were Nishtashri Srinivasan, Coimbatore, Rakhee Biswas Deb, Guwahati, Abirami Santhosh, Salem, Vandana Saraf, Gorakhpur, Piyusha Nyati, Kota, Mona Shah, Mumbai, Dr. Renisha Chainani, Ahmedabad, Ambika Burman, Hyderabad, Aishwarya Guptha, Coimbatore, Preeta Agarwal, New Delhi & Pooja Mehta, Mumbai.

Mr. Prithviraj Kothari, National President of IBJA, hosted the glittering Golden Girls Awards show at Hotel Sahara Star, Mumbai. The event was attended by Ms. Hetal Vakil Valia, National Chairperson of the Ladies Wing-IBJA, and distinguished stalwarts from the industry such as G&J Industry Icon Mr. Sanjay Kothari, former Chairman-GJEPC, Dr. Chetan Mehta, National Vice President-IBJA, Mr. Surendra Mehta, National Secretary-IBJA, Mr. Ashish Pethe, of Waman Hari Pethe and former Chairman-GJC, Mr. Rajesh Bajaj, Head, HZ International & HZ Trade Media Group Enterprises, and Mr. Neeraj Gaba, Creative Entrepreneur & Motivational Speaker, among others.

The event was sponsored by Laxmi Diamonds, Emerald Jewel Industry India Ltd., and Shringhar House of Mangalsutra Pvt. Ltd. Ms. Reena Shukla was the Convener of the Golden Girls Awards.

Mr. Prithviraj Kothari, National President of IBJA, said that the Gem & Jewellery industry has women who are powerful, gentle, learned, humble, fierce, compassionate, rational, and disciplined, yet free. They are marching ahead, carrying the national sentiments and economic aspirations of India. The Golden Girls Awards are dedicated to those talented women who have been instrumental in bringing the G&J industry this far in its evolutionary journey and hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister Modi’s vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Ms. Hetal Vakil Valia, National Chairperson of the Ladies Wing-IBJA, said that the Golden Girls Awards were specially crafted for upcoming and progressive luminaries of the Gem & Jewellery industry who have yet to receive their due recognition. IBJA believes that such courageous entrepreneurs deserve true accreditation. The Golden Girls Awards will be all about the unsung and hardworking women who work tirelessly in this tough yet exciting industry. Their existence and presence give IBJA the opportunity to recognize and reward their work and dedication in front of their peers and industry experts.

International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on 8th March every year to commemorate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is a day to reflect on the progress made towards gender equality and to raise awareness about the challenges that women face every day.

The Gem and Jewellery industry is one of the largest employers of women in India, providing employment opportunities to millions of women across the country. However, despite the significant contribution of women to the industry, they are still underrepresented in leadership positions. Women still face numerous challenges in the industry, such as unequal pay, limited access to capital and markets, and lack of support networks.

The Golden Girls Awards ceremony was a step towards recognizing and addressing these challenges. The awards highlighted the achievements of women in the industry and provided a platform for networking and collaboration. The winners of the awards were women who had defied all odds and had succeeded through sheer passion and determination, displaying qualities such as confidence, concentration, consistency, collaboration, and cooperation.
