In a groundbreaking collaboration, music industry giants HYBE and Geffen Records have announced the 20 contestants from around the world who will be competing for a spot in the first-ever HYBE x Geffen Records global girl group. This joint venture marks the first time a major U.S. record label and a K-pop entertainment leader have combined their expertise to assemble and develop an international girl group.
The selection process for the global girl group began after more than 120,000 submissions were received following the announcement of the HYBE x Geffen Global Girl Group Audition in November 2021. The selected contestants from diverse countries have been undergoing training in Los Angeles, CA, over the past year, following the world-renowned K-pop training and development system.
The journey of creating this unique girl group will be documented in an upcoming untitled Netflix documentary series, set to premiere in 2024. The series will provide unprecedented access to the training and development program by HYBE and Geffen Records and will be directed by Nadia Hallgren, known for her work on the Emmy®️ nominated Netflix documentary “Becoming.”
The contestants will participate in an audition program titled “The Debut: Dream Academy,” with the content premiering on September 1st on YouTube (Global) and ABEMA (Japan). Fan voting on Weverse and TikTok, along with guidance from experienced evaluators, will play a crucial role in shaping the final group.
