Karan Kundrra on Playing a Unique Negative Character in Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal

Actor Karan Kundrra, known for his roles in popular shows like Kitani Mohabbat Hai, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, and Dil Hi Toh Hai, is all set to make his comeback on television with Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal. The show, which premiered on March 14, has already been creating a buzz among viewers, with many drawing comparisons to popular international shows like The Vampire Diaries.

However, Karan Kundrra insists that his character in the show, Veer Oberoi, is very different from what one usually sees on screen. He believes that playing a negative character can be challenging because many actors end up making it an all-black antagonist, which is not rooted in reality. But for Karan, it is important to portray Veer in a unique way, keeping him real and relatable.

“Veer has his own standard of good and bad. He does not care about what people think of him. He is unapologetic and intense. It becomes difficult to make such a character rooted to reality, which is what I am trying to do,” he says.

Karan admits that he was initially hesitant about taking up the show because he had gotten used to shooting for finite series for OTT platforms. However, he was excited when he heard the storyline and character brief, and he wanted to take up the challenge of doing a daily soap.

Talking about the comparisons to The Vampire Diaries, Karan says that it is obvious and that he is a big fan of the show and Ian Somerhalder. However, he believes that if they had made an exact copy of the show, there would be no reason for anyone to watch it. Karan adds that fantasy supernatural shows are a limited genre, and when people think of the genre, they immediately think of shows like Twilight, Dracula, or The Vampire Diaries.

“For me, as long as the audiences are drawn to watching the show, it is worth it,” he says.

Karan also talks about the pressure he feels to bring his own touch to the character, especially during romantic scenes. He says that sometimes, directors tell him that his performance reminds them of Shah Rukh Khan, and he offers to do another take. As an actor, Karan believes that it is important to keep ensuring that he brings his own touch to the character, even if there is pressure to emulate someone else.

The show, which also stars Yogita Bihani and Manish Wadhwa, revolves around the love story of Veer and Rashi (played by Yogita), who are from two different worlds. While Veer is a wealthy businessman, Rashi comes from a middle-class family. The show is produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions, known for their popular shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum, Punar Vivah, and Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai.

Karan Kundrra’s character in Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal promises to be a unique one, different from what we usually see on television.
