Every year brings a host of festivities with it as several communities across India celebrate various festivals. From Makar Sankranti and Pongal to Lohri, there’s no dearth of celebrations along with that of the new year. The year has now started with the first festival of the year and that is Lohri. The festival which is widely celebrated across North India marks the end of winter as farmers look forward to a new harvest season.
Bollywood has never missed an opportunity to look up to festivals and share their own stores surrounding these auspicious days.
TV’s most loved face, Abhishek Kapur opens up his heart and reveals memories of his childhood.
“Many people live in apartments in Mumbai and don’t have the privilege to fly kites on the terrace due to safety reasons but it always reminds me of the childhood days when we didn’t care about anything except flying kites. However, we still follow the ritual of eating Khichdi on Makar Sankranti, that my mom makes at home. Everyone has a holiday and we spend time together. Since the festival comes during winters, people have a ritual of cooking sweet potato on sigdi and then eating it.”
Abhishek wants the festival to bring happiness and prosperity for everyone, “Makar Sankranti is the first festival of this new year and I just wish it brings a lot of happiness and prosperity to everyone’s lives. As the kites fly high up in the sky, I hope everyone’s careers keep going up the same way,” he said.
